04/12/26 Prepared Edge Hand Applique with Linda Neal

Sunday, April 12th at 4pm through Wednesday, April 15th at 2pm.

Join award-winning quilter, Linda Neal for 4 days and 3 nights of hand appliqué. This class if for all levels of students. Bring an appliqué project in progress or start a new project as you learn how to make perfect circles, curves, sharp points, deep V's, stems, skinny stems, and very, very skinny stems (Linda's own technique). This class teaches the prepared edge technique using freezer paper, starch, and a small iron. Each piece is glue-basted together and then onto the background fabric in preparation for hand stitching. Students will work on their own project at their own pace. It will be a fun, informative, relaxing retreat at Red Boot! 

NOTE: Cancellations are refundable if done 30 days prior to event. The kitchen may contain common allergens. We recommend bringing additional food if you have specific dietary needs. A menu can be provided upon request in advance of the event. 
NO smoking, vaping, or animals to include emotional support animals; registered service animals are always welcome. 
Due to the nature of the facility, kindly refrain from bringing paint or glitter. 

Applique Class Supply List by Linda Neal
1. Regular Starch (NOT heavy duty) with small container (aerosol or non-aerosol).
2. **Roxanne's Glue Baste It. I put it in a small bottle - Dritz Longarm Micro-Tip Applicator
3. **Stiletto - one with a good sharp metal point that feels comfortable to you
4. Brush - 1/4 in. angled paint brush from the painting section at a craft store is great
5. **Small craft-travel iron that gets hot. I have been using a Circuit Mini Heat Press Iron; available from Amazon
6. Cheri's Cool Tool is a MUST for class. Nothing else works as well
7. **Flower head pins or similar
8. **Scissors for fabric: I prefer serrated - Kai purple handle or Karen Kay Buckley middle size - light blue handle
9. **Scissors for paper: curved and straight scissors in a variety of sizes. (I use Kai 4 inch straight and curved and Kai 5 1/2 in. curved)
10. **Applique Scissors - straight, sharp tip
11. **1/4 inch Clover Bias Maker - it MUST be the Christmas green one. (NOT purple or mint green)
12. **Wool ironing mat (12x18 in. or similar) Covered with a piece of cotton fabric to keep it clean
13. 1/4 inch (or similar) white foam core board cut t the size of your project. (available from Walmart, Michaels, Staples, etc.)
14. **Cut-Rite Heavy Duty Freezer paper 8 1/2 x 11. (This is NOT freezer paper on a roll)
15. Ultra fine or fine Sharpie Marker - blue or black
16. Parchment paper - roll or precut sheets - you need 1 piece the size of your project
17. Blue painter's tape
18. Pencil
19. Emory board (nail file)
20. **Silicone hot pad or silicone iron pad - keeps your irons from burning tables or falling onto floor during class
21. **Aileen's OK to Wash It. Due to supply issues, this can be difficult to find. Red Boot tries to keep it in stock but may want to bring with if possible. 
22. Extension cord - a short cord to plug in both of your irons at your desk
23. Pattern, copy of pattern, reverse pattern copied onto Cut Rite Freezer paper, fabric for appliqué and background, thread to match, needle, etc.
